THIS IS WHERE YOUR JEWELLERY-MAKING JOURNEY BEGINS

This full-day hands-on class is the foundation of fashion jewellery making at Hot Dot Designs. You’ll learn the essential skills, techniques and design principles that give you the confidence to create jewellery that is well made, balanced and uniquely your own.

We’ll begin with your tools — how to use them correctly and safely — before moving into the fundamental techniques of working with eye pins, jump rings and jewellery components.

But technique is only part of good jewellery design. I’ll also introduce you to colour, proportion, placement and balance, showing you how these elements work together and how small design decisions can completely change the finished piece.

Throughout the day, you’ll put these skills into practice while creating your own jewellery pieces, with plenty of individual guidance from me along the way.

What You Will Learn

• How to use jewellery tools correctly and safely
• What the different tools are used for and why
• How to make and join eye pins for a professional finish
• How to correctly open, close and use jump rings
• How to make your own jump rings
• How to recognise quality jewellery components and understand when different products can be used
• How to work confidently with colour, including mixing and matching colour combinations
• The fundamental principles of good jewellery design
• How placement, scale, proportion and balance affect a finished design
• How to use seed beads effectively within your jewellery designs
• How to develop your eye and understand why a design works — and why sometimes it doesn't
• How to create beaten metal coils and shapes for decorative elements
• How to work with artistic wire and harden it correctly
Drawing on techniques from my silversmithing background, I’ll also introduce you to working and beating metal to create decorative shapes and coils that can take your jewellery designs in a completely different direction.

What you will Create
You’ll create a necklace and earrings during the workshop, but the real focus of this foundation class is learning the techniques and design principles you can continue using long after the day is over.

Class Details

• Maximum 4 students for focused, personalised attention.
• All materials are provided.
• You’ll work with my signature Zebra Print Jewellery Tools throughout the workshop, with all tools provided for your use. You’re also welcome to bring your own tools if you prefer.
• You’ll receive printed notes covering the techniques taught in the workshop to take home for future reference.
• The studio is fully equipped with an extensive range of beads, findings, components and jewellery-making tools.
• A wide range of colours and materials will be available for you to work with during the workshop.
• Tea, coffee and biscuits are available during breaks.
• Enjoy a cosy outdoor space for breaks and lunch.
• You’ll receive a Certificate of Completion at the end of the workshop.
